A lot of our clients ask me how what they can do to make a living in Costa Rica
I usually reply that sound business principles apply in any couuntry.
The truth is that a number of people over the age of 60 come to this country and see it like California 50 years ago. Regardless if that is true, there are a lot of Sodas (restaurants that serve typical Costa Rican Cuisin), bars, and hardware stores. I normally do not recommend that people enter these business just because there is such a high saturation already it can be hard to distinguish yourself on the business field.
However, we have a number of investment properties (such as apartment buildings) that
make earning a living here reasonably painless. Some banks pay as high as 13% (not a misprint) in the local currency and I know of at least 2 people who merely live off the interest from their investment account. There are also many other ideas in tourism, import/export and producing any number of useful goods made from inexpensive local products with a very reasonable cost of labor.
